Desiderata

Rose shared this with me and I wanted to share it with you, it's very inspirational!

   Desiderata
-- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --
Latin for: Things to be Desired
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

The Four Agreements

My dear son, Vincent:  As you know I've been writing Diaries to you since the day I found out I was expecting you, over 21 years ago now.  I thought it might be nice to put down all those things I wrote down and other thoughts and information that may help you in your life journey. I've had a very adventurous life, not in the way most people think of adventure.  I've traveled within the country a little, but mostly it's just my experiences I consider adventures.  Life is an adventure, and some have more than others!  I'm going to start with an excerpt from a book by: Don Miguel Ruiz, my Counselor gave this to me and I am hooked, these are definitely words to live by:

THE FOUR AGREEMENTS

BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD

~Speak with integrity.  Say only what you mean.
~Avoid using the word to speak against yourself
or to gossip about others.  Use the power of your
word in the direction of truth and love.

DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

~Nothing others do is because of you.  What
others say and do is a projection of their own
reality, their own dream.  When you are immune
to the opinions and actions of others, you wont
be the victim of needless suffering.

DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

~Find the courage to ask questions and to express
what you really want.
~Communicate with others as clearly as you can
to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama.
With just this one agreement, you can completely
transform your life.

ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

~Your best is going to change from moment to
moment;  it will be different when you are healthy
as opposed to sick.  Under any circumstance,
simply do your best, and you will avoid self-
judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

What I find exceptionally ironic about this, and I'm sure you heard it too:
Some of those things, I've said to you and some you've said to me!  You've always
been such an intelligent and wise young man and you've taught me alot.  I just pray I've taught you some too!
I will attempt to help you along your individual road, honey and pray some of it will be helpful to you on that journey!

All my Love Forever,
Mom
